Rules for Dating a Canadian

dating a canadian

So you’ve fallen head over heels for a Canadian and now you’re wondering how you can make as perfect as possible? Well you’re in luck here are the crucial rules to help your new Canadian love interest. Whether you’re an in another country and stumbled upon one of our Canucks, or you’re in Canada and being preemptive, these rules are crucial but second nature for all seasoned Canadians.

1. Always Bag Their Milk

Chances are your new beau is from eastern Canada (where they drink bagged milk), so logically you can’t go wrong by pouring all the milk into bags. This will show you are culturally aware, and may resolve any feelings a homesick Canadian may be having. Just find any Ziploc bag and pour milk into it. If you want to make it a fun treasure hunt for your Canadian just hide the milk bags around the house and they’ll have hours of fun.

2. Don't Say Sorry Too Soon

Many cross-cultural relationships involving a Canadian end prematurely because one partner says the first Sorry too soon. Please wait until you both are serious enough before saying that magic word. When you do feel the need to say it, make sure the time is right, look them in the eyes, hand them a Canadian turnip and hopefully they say it back.

3. Take them for lots of walks

Canadians love their walks. They’re used to a lot of open space to run around and tire themselves out. They love nature and the great outdoors. They may tell you about the superior air quality in Canada, please just agree it’s not worth the fight.

4. Take their medical visits seriously

They love their free healthcare, so please always have insurance for them, and try to avoid the topic of healthcare in America. If you’re located in the USA make sure the doctor knows their patient is Canadian. Canadians need to wait in boredom at least 10 minutes before seeing their doctor at risk of being spooked. It’s a national pastime for all Canadians to learn about IBS and Cardiomyopathy from the posters on a doctor’s wall.
